ShrinkWrapt Las Vegas offers personalized care and flexible scheduling for therapy services to individuals 18 years+. Please note, I do not provide services for couples or families. Therapeutic specialties include military and veteran populations, late teen through adulthood, depression/anxiety, PTSD, and when personality traits that are making life, work, and/or relationships difficult. I work primarily from a psychodynamic standpoint with a healthy mix of cognitive-behavioral, interpersonal, and mindfulness techniques. I am familiar also with several PTSD treatment protocols. When necessary, referrals can be provided (e.g., when another type of expert is needed). I have have two therapy dogs, Shanti (left) and Stewart (right), who are ready and willing to assist with any therapy needs, such as depression, anxiety, and PTSD. If you are interested in having one of them at your session, please let me know when you schedule your appointment.
Please note, I do not have experience with or treat addictions or eating disorders. Similarly, I do not have the resources to support individuals who are actively psychotic, manic, or suicidal. In these cases, referrals will be necesary.
Free 15-minute consultations via phone are offered so clients can assess the 'fit.' Potential clients are also invited to email prior to scheduling too. It's incredibly important to connect and feel as though you can trust your therapist.
Independent Medical Examinations/Psychological Assessment
REVIEWING REFERRALS AND REQUESTS, BOOKING INTO FEBRUARY 2020 CURRENTLY
Evaluation and assessment services are offered and are priced per project. Typical evaluations include veteran compensation and pension exams (disability benefits questionnaires) and psychological assessment for a variety of reasons.
Veteran Compensation and Pension Claims:
Veterans may self-refer for completion of a DBQ or an IME (independent medical evaluation) to apply for disability benefits or to appeal disability ratings through the Veterans Administration. I charge $300 for completion of Mental Disorders DBQs (to include 'lifestyle impact claims'), $350 for PTSD DBQs, and $150/hour for records reviews in support of all types of DBQs.
I offer in-person and televideo assessments. Whether I can complete your evaluation depends upon the state licensing laws where you reside, as well as where I am licensed. Please inquire.
I complete independent medical evaluations (IMEs) instead of independent medical opinions (IMOs) or nexus letters for various reasons. When a nexus letter or IMO is drafted, the evaluator will often only review your medical records and then, make an educated guess on service-connection. Medical records often conflict or contain errors, so using them to render an opinion is difficult, unreliable, and haphazard. The VA knows this and therefore, in my experience, finds much greater weight in IMEs than in IMOs/nexus letters. For those reasons, I offer veterans an evaluation, where I generate my own diagnosis and opinion on service-connection (e.g., 'nexus'). I also feel that by doing an evaluation with you, I have done due diligence in evaluating your specific situation, adding new evidence to your claim, and doing right by my professional competence and ethical obligations.
In addition to not writing nexus letters, please note that, due to a current lack of scientific evidence, I do not complete evaluations claiming that medical conditions, such as sleep apnea (OSA), high blood pressure (HTN), acid reflux (GERD), migraine headaches, or other such medical conditions are secondary to PTSD. Simply stated, current medical evidence does not support that PTSD *causes* these physical or medical conditions, only that, in certain cases or populations, a correlation or relationship may or does exist. Although the VA has granted secondary service connection in limited such cases, it has not been without appeal, conflicting medical opinions, and multiple evaluations, along with the VA's recognition of the lack of medical evidence. Therefore, I routinely decline performing this type of evaluation.
Please contact me at for additional information on veteran evaluations.
Psychological assessment (testing) requested through self-referral or through other means may include a mental status exam (MSE), IQ, attention, functioning, academic achievement, and/or personality measures. A number of tests or 'assessments' make up an 'evaluation' or 'test battery.' Depending upon the referral source, feedback may or may not be available to the client. However, in all cases allowed, ShrinkWrapt will provide as much information and feedback as possible. Currently, these assessments are available for ages 18+.
Consultation services are available to educators, attorneys, physicians, and other mental health professionals via phone, email, in-person, or televideo, across the U.S. and overseas.
In any of these cases, please contact Dr. Wingeart for further information.
